TAXI - A word of advice...agree on the price before making the trip. And only take the taxis with the red PPV license plates.

MINIBUS - The buses have standard places of departure, and can also be waved down. They have red PP license plates, and as with taxis, find out the price before boarding. They are oftentimes crowded, and it can be quite an exciting ride!

RENTAL CARS - Jamaica is the third largest island in the Caribbean and to really see the island, you may want to rent a car. There are international car and jeep rental companies in the airports and resort areas. The average cost is $65.00 per day, with discounts sometimes given for longer rentals. Reserve early to get the best rates. The cost of insurance is driving the prices of car rentals higher all of the time. Check on your coverage with your insurance company before you leave home.

A U.S. driver's license is valid for up to three months per visit to Jamaica. Driving is on the left. Speed limit is 30 MPH in urban areas and villages and 50 MPH on highways unless otherwise posted. Don't drink and drive and be especially cautious when driving at night. Signs warning of "Sleeping Policeman" refer to an upcoming speed bump! You must be 21 years old with a valid driver's license and a major credit card to rent a car in Jamaica.
