San Jose !

The tenth largest city in the United States of America is San Jose and it is also the third largest city in the state of California. Located at the Santa Clara valley, which is more popularly known as the Silicon Valley, San Jose is called the capital of the silicon valley and is situated at the center of a booming technological industry. San Jose was founded in the year 1777 and was ooriginally known as El Pueblo de San José de Guadalupe. San Jose served as the first capital of the state when California gained statehood back in the year 1850.

San Jose outdid San Francisco in population to become the third most populous city in California in the late 1980's. Under the law of the state California san Jose is a charter city. San Jose has a Mediterranean climate like most bay areas. Temperature over here varies little during the period of a year or even within the period of twenty four hours. The city has very light rainfall and most of the days here are sunny. In the winter season hillsides and fields turn green with grasses and foliage but as summer comes the vegetation dries up and gradually dies.

The Downtown Historic District, the De Anza Hotel, and the Hotel Sainte Claire are few of the historical places of the city and have an architectural significance to its people. The Children's Discovery Museum, the San Jose Repertory Theater and the Tech Museum of Innovation are spots that tourists find very interesting and pulsating.

The most famous universities of the place are Santa Clara University, Stanford University in Palo Alto, De Anza College in Cupertino, Carnegie Mellon West in Mountain View and the University of California, Berkeley.

Brilliant Center for Beethoven Studies, Mexican Heritage Plaza, Opera San Jose, Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum, San Jose City Hall, San Jose Flea Market, San Jose Museum of Art, San Jose Repertory Theatre, Viet Museum, Villa Montalvo.

San Jose City HallSan Jose is also a major center for sports. The only "Big Four" team to play in San Jose is the San Jose Sharks of the NHL. This team came the closest to winning the Stanley Cup in the year 2004 but finally lost it. San Jose has had previous attempts to draw teams from Major League Baseball, the NFL and the NBA by offering stadium deals or attracting relocating sports teams.

San Jose is of course one of the major tourists haunts of the United States of America and the historical as well as cultural background of the city attracts visitors from all over the globe.
